Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership (70%)
● Lead end-to-end architecture of scalable full stack web applications — from requirements gathering to production deployment on Cloudflare edge + AWS
● Actively contribute to critical modules, core services, and system design — hands-on engineering is a core expectation of this role
● Define and enforce engineering standards — TypeScript-first coding conventions, design patterns, security baselines, and performance benchmarks
● Architect and govern REST APIs, WebSocket services, and MCP server integrations across distributed systems built on NestJS/Node.js
● Design, develop, and integrate AI-powered features using Cloudflare Agents, LangChain, LangGraph, or similar AI agent frameworks
● Deploy and manage applications on AWS (S3, Athena, k8s/EKS) — edge-first architecture
● Drive performance optimization, scalability planning, and production reliability across multiple web apps serving internal and external users
● Lead technical discovery and solutioning for new features, integrations, AI tooling, and platform migrations
● Own CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in collaboration with the DevOps team — GitLab CI, conventional commits, and deployment automation
● Conduct deep-dive code reviews and architectural walkthroughs ensuring correctness, maintainability, and TypeScript-first quality
● Champion automated testing strategy — unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage using Jest, Vitest, and Playwright
● Leverage AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Antigravity) to accelerate development and model best practices for the team
People & Delivery Management (30%)
● Lead and grow a team of 6–12 engineers — manage hiring, onboarding, and career development
● Set clear goals, expectations, and performance benchmarks — conduct regular 1:1s and structured performance reviews
● Mentor senior and mid-level engineers toward technical leadership; build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous learning
● Partner with Product Management to translate business requirements into engineering roadmaps and delivery plans
● Collaborate with cross-functional teams (QA, DevOps, Design, Product) to ensure smooth delivery and consistent quality
● Manage project timelines, dependencies, and technical risk — communicate status and blockers to leadership proactively
● Stay current with emerging technologies — AI agents, edge computing, WebSockets, MCP — and drive continuous adoption of better engineering practices
Required Skills (Mandatory)
Technology skills in order of priority:
● TypeScript — 10+ years; deep expertise in strong typing, generics, and TypeScript-first architecture on both frontend and backend. TypeScript is the primary language — not Python.
● AI Agents — hands-on experience with Cloudflare Agents, LangChain, LangGraph, Flue, or similar; prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, and AI-powered feature integration
● Cloud Providers — AWS (S3, Athena, k8s/EKS) and/or Azure; hands-on infrastructure and deployment experience
● REST APIs, WebSockets & MCP Servers — designing, governing, and consuming APIs; real-time services and Model Context Protocol server integration
● Node.js / NestJS — backend service development, TypeScript-based REST and WebSocket APIs
● SQL / PostgreSQL & Prisma ORM — query optimization, data modeling, schema design, and ORM-based data access
● Git & CI/CD — GitLab CI pipelines, conventional commits, branching strategies, and release automation
● Python — working familiarity for scripting and data tasks (deprioritized; TypeScript preferred for all APIs and services)
● UX Engineering mindset — deep appreciation for design systems, accessibility, and UI quality; UX engineering background is a strong plus
Good to Have
● Kafka (MSK) — event-driven messaging and stream processing
● Docker & Kubernetes — containerized deployments and orchestration (AWS EKS)
● Auth0 / JWT — enterprise authentication and authorization implementation
● Tailwind / UnoCSS — utility-first CSS and design system component libraries-nice to have
● GraphQL / tRPC — API design beyond REST
● Vector databases and AI model integrations — AI-native data workflows and RAG systems
● Health Tech / Payer-side experience — healthcare domain knowledge is a strong plus
● Microservices architecture — distributed systems design and scalability patterns
● Testing: Jest, Vitest, Playwright, Cypress — defining and enforcing testing standards across teams
Preferred Qualifications
● Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
● 10–14 years of hands-on experience in full stack development
● At least 6 years in a Technical Lead or Engineering Manager role
● Proven track record of delivering large-scale, distributed, cloud-hosted applications
● Demonstrated ability to grow and retain high-performing engineering teams
● Strong problem-solving, system design, and architectural decision-making skills
● Excellent communication skills — ability to translate complex technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
● A strong, loosely held opinion about what a modern data stack looks like — and what belongs or doesn't belong in it
● Passion for AI-powered engineering — especially agent frameworks, edge computing, and modern frontend architecture
